Employee thoughts

A noteworthy finding in Glassdoor’s recent office poll is that more than two-thirds of employees (68 %) want social distancing measures and mask wearing to continue even after everyone in the office had been vaccinated. This shows a heightened awareness of health and wellness which stems from people’s personal suffering just the past year. No wonder the Covid19 Response-Spring 2021 detail on the issue of returning to workplaces is sparse and guidance on work-from-home will continue until June 2021.

Employer thoughts and actions

Undoubtedly, every employer’s office re-entry plan should be mindful of the profound effect that the Covid19 pandemic continues to have on people’s lives. Hence, the inherent danger of adopting a rules-based approach as employees will in any event assess health and safety in their work situation, once the “back-to-work” excitement wears off. An effective Covid19 office re-entry plan will thus take into account employee feedback to determine and monitor the basic level of care acceptable to the workforce and to positively impact productivity.

The chief people officer at Glassdoor hit the nail on the head when she said: “This is an incredibly sensitive area but the bigger opportunity here is to define what office life will be like, both this year and in the long term.”

Earth Day Focus

This is a great sentiment to share and explore today being earth day, to demonstrate support of environmental protection which is the practice of protecting the natural environment by employers and employees, amongst others. The objectives being to conserve natural resources where possible but also to repair damage and reverse trends.

A little known fact is “The advent of 5G holds unprecedented promise for the wireless ecosystem and our world, but we must remain clear-eyed about the staggering energy demands of 5G and its life-changing use cases to develop appropriate and timely solutions,” said Henry Tirri, Chief Technology Officer, InterDigital. This is why we focus on frequency, energy, radiation, electric charge and magnetism to reduce the cumulative EMF risk on workers. We are greatly concerned for the health and wellbeing of children who still need to grow and their families and carers in the workplace, i.e. workers at particular risk:

  • workers who wear active implanted medical devices
  • workers with passive implanted medical devices
  • workers with medical devices worn on the body
  • pregnant workers

A natural world in the office

Take a moment today to reflect on our natural world or natural environment. This encompasses all living and non-living things occurring naturally (wild animals, forests, rocks, etc.) so nothing that is artificial, man-made or manufactured! This traditional view is helpful as it immediately simplifies the distinction and excludes that which has been brought into being by the human mind or human consciousness.  It is an area we continually seek to add value and bring meaning… where the universal natural resources lack clear boundaries… Some limit their thinking to climate, air and water but we have extended our thinking to focus on energy, frequencies, radiation, electric charge and magnetism, through a dedicated service, EMFstrategy. It aims to find an optimal balance in any office environment using the ALARA principle to EMFs so workers enjoy improved productivity without compromising health and wellbeing. Naturally, we take an ecosystems approach to resource management, environmental protection and health and wellness, and will work collaboratively for your greater good. One of the risks post-Covid19 is the automatic assumption of safe technology including an increased reliance not mindful of the cumulative adverse effects on health.
